Adult Education: Priniciples of Judaism, Foundation of Faith
The Jewish tradition rests on a foundation of faith. In Judaism faith remains a subtle part of our religious practice. For example, the word 'amen' with which we conclude a prayer, literally means 'I believe.'
Faith is an easy word to use, but finding faith or defining faith, can often be very hard.
Our classes will begin with Maimonides, and his 13 Principles of Faith. Meeting one Thursday a month through May, the course will traverse the Jewish pathways leading toward faith in the centuries since Maimonides, and culminating in the contemporary prayerbook.
Foundations of Judaism is designed to teach the basics. It is for people who are seeking an introduction to what Judaism can offer them spiritually, and for those seeking to examine their own ideas.
