Beit Haverim/South Metro Jewish Congregation is an open, inviting, and spiritually alive Jewish community, located just outside of Portland, Oregon in Lake Oswego. We welcome everyone to our Reform congregation of Jews by birth, Jews by choice, and Jews at heart. Beit Haverim/South Metro Jewish Congregation was founded in 1992 so that families and individuals might experience the sense of Jewish belonging that comes from shared worship, religious instruction, Tikkun Olam, and social events at a location not too far from home. The families of Beit Haverim/SMJC are blessed to have Rabbi Alan Berg leading our congregation. Rabbi Berg leads our Shabbat Worship and Torah Study twice a month in addition to leading us for Jewish Holiday worship throughout the year. Rabbi Berg leads discussion groups at our “Afternoon Tea with the Rabbi” series on occasional Sunday afternoons in addition to providing support for our Religious School and Social Action programs. The families of Beit Haverim/SMJC come together for worship and education at Lake Oswego United Church of Christ (LOUCC) at 1111 Country Club Drive in Lake Oswego, just east of Lake Oswego High School. The leadership and members of Beit Haverim/SMJC extend our sincerest thanks and appreciation to the members of LOUCC for sharing their spiritual home with us.

Come to Beit Haverim’s Purim Celebration on Friday, February 26th. We will begin with the Purim Carnival at 6:00 p.m. and culminate with a 7:30 p.m. service and Purim Spiel. We are looking for 15 families to serve as table hosts for our community seder on Tuesday, March 30th. If you are able to be a host, please contact Michele Beyer by March 20th.
Save the date! Our annual rummage sale will be held on Sunday, April 11 from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm at Lake Oswego Junior High School.

We will have a special guest at a Potluck Dinner and Shabbat Service on April 30th. Our dear friend and Rabbi Emeritus, Larry Halpern, will join Rabbi Berg and Ann Brown to lead the service. This service will also honor our wonderful Religious School teachers. A special “ice cream Oneg” in Rabbi Larry’s honor, will be provided following the service. Be sure to save the date!
